Fishing

The Highland region as a whole ie. Caithness, Sutherland, Ross and Cromarty and Inverness-Shire, abounds with first class fishing in its lochs and rivers. Almost every loch holds hosts of wild brown trout and the rivers boast enviable salmon stocks.

Our local rivers, the Beauly and Conon, have unrivalled grilse runs and along with the Alness River ( 10mls north), a spate river, and the Black Water River, Contin near Dingwall, fishing for salmon and sea trout. The Black Water and Conon Rivers also allow for brown trout fishing.

For good boat fishing for rainbow trout, Tarvie Lochs Trout Fishery, Contin by Strathpeffer is worth a visit. Rothiemurchus Estate, south of Aviemore has an 8 acre loch predominately fly fishing at the fishery within the Estate. For more details visit their website at www.rothiemurchus.net.

Details on rivers and lochs in Caithness and Sutherland can be obtained in the directory within the publication "Scotland for Fishing" by Stan Headley. A copy is available at your holiday home.
